Living in North Devon and being lucky enough to be able to work as an artist every day I take my inspiration from painters from the past who have a darker and symbolic take on life. Around me I use trees, woods, ruined buildings being overtaken by nature and forests where there is a slight sense of menace in the air, a feeling that the past is still caught there and other people have worked the landscape. I love detail, dark tones and shadows. Having worked in watercolour for a long time I have recently rediscovered the joy of working in pen, these works are large and full of detail, and to rest my eyes I paint in oils with larger strokes and bolder effects, not aiming at the same degree of realism. During the last year I have exhibited in joint shows at The Burton in Bideford, The Bath and West Show in Somerset, RHS Rosemoor The Artists Garden Exhibition, Broomhill and The Plough in Torrington both as a member of the NDA. Some of my work can be viewed at 14 The Gallery in Torrington's Pannier Market.
