Living in North Devon and being lucky enough to work as an artist every day I take my inspiration from painters from the past who have a darker and symbolic take on life. Around me I use trees, woods, ruined buildings being overtaken by nature and forests where there may be a slight air of menace in the air, a feeling that the past is still caught there and other people have worked the landscape. I love detail, dark tones and shadows.
Recently I have begun work on a series of paintings called “Good wives” where I explore women through the centuries as they are represented as effigies in churches in North Devon. I hope to hold an exhibition of these works when the series is completed.
I am an exhibiting member of The Westward Ho! and Bideford Art Society showing work in joint shows in The Burton Gallery in Bideford, RHS Rosemoor “The Artist’s Garden” Exhibition, Broomhill and The Plough in Torrington both as a member of North Devon Arts. My work can be viewed at 14 The Gallery in Torrington’s Pannier Market, the Little Gallery on the Farm near Shebbear and The Waterside Gallery in Instow. New work can be viewed at my studio in the village of Weare Giffard which is between Torrington and Bideford, please ring for details. |
