Artist's Profile

Kevin Green

I originally studied Fine Art, and came to pottery by a roundabout route. Although self-taught, l started working professionally as a potter in 1991. I have taught at secondary and college level, and now teach privately from my studio, offering individual or small group lessons and workshops. I have shown work in a variety of galleries and shops across the UK, and regularly exhibit at some of the major UK ceramic and craft events. Although new to the area, my work can be currently seen locally at Artstore (Barnstaple), Griffins Yard (South Molton) and at Lynton Arts and Crafts centre. My studio and showroom in Parracombe is open to visitors most of the year.

Artist's Statement

I work in reduction fired stoneware, using quiet and subtle glazes with minimal decoration. This is either applied by freehand drawing with latex resist, or with incised lines, or more recently with applied strips of clay to give a raised pattern area. The decoration is individual to each piece of work, and the motifs are loosely based and reinterpreted from a variety of sources, and often reflect my interest in ethnic art. The work is largely vessel based, usually thrown, but occasionally altered or built using slab technique. The wall pieces are mounted sets of ceramic tiles.
