Artist's Profile

Jacqui Harrison

After studying Fine Art at the Glasgow School of Art, I went on to complete a PGCE in Secondary Art and Design at the University of London. Having spent many years living on a canal boat sailing around the waterways of England and Wales, I seem to have finally decided to settle in North Devon. My time is divided between working on private commissions, teaching and running workshops, and working independently as an archivist.

Artist's Statement

My work has been described as four dimensional because it is made in relief with the extra dimension of time. Unsatisfied with flat surfaces, I have always tried building paintings outwards. Initially I achieved this using papier mache, but now I work in a whole range of materials from polystyrene to fibreglass and cement. I would never want to become trapped in one particular style of making work because art to me is always about exploring and experimenting.

I am currently working on a show called 'Industrious Britain' which will be a visual exploration of a journey I have made around the UK. My aim is to express my interpretation of each place in the choice of material that I use. I am now also excited about the prospect of getting to grips with the landscapes of North Devon, and look forward to focusing on using some of my original drawing and painting skills.
