Artist's Statement | Since moving to North Devon from the Kent/East Sussex area I have given myself a sabbatical from painting – just doing a little furniture and table mat decoration on commission and for sale on a market stall, using oil paint or acrylics. I have been recently encouraged to put waterclour brush to paper again and the first exhibition including new work was on the Artist's Wall at the Plough in Great Torrington, and subsequently the Square Picture Show at Broomhill for NDA. My work is centred around the natural world, from which I take my inspiration for the 'bird's eye view' still life paintings which usually include glass with the exciting play of reflected light and shadows. In my landscape work I again try to capture the sunlight on water or through trees, and I am enormously influenced by the local steeply wooded countryside. My first venture into painting the sometimes dramatic North Devon coast has also been an exciting experience.
The past few years living in the south east have made exhibiting in London an annual possibility and my work has been selected to be shown at the open exhibitions of the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolour, the Royal Watercolour Society and the Society of Women Artists on several occasions. I have also participated in an Open Studio event in Kent, both on my own and with a group of other artists.
