Title: "Internal Closure" Medium: electro-acoustic piece Notes: Internal Closure (2009) is an electro-acoustic piece representing certain aspects of a form of epilepsy known as Complex Partial Seizure. It includes representation of Audio Hallucinations, and Ictal Dysphasia. The ABC structure of the piece is indicative of the feeling of anticipation (Aura), then the seizure, then coming out of the seizure and becoming audibly and physically aware of your surroundings. It makes use of several compositional tools including rhythmic displacement, Imperfect cadence, and retrograde. It also includes excerpts of a poem written about epilepsy, and a common phrase aimed at people who are experiencing partial seizures, “The lights are on but there’s nobody in”.
