Following completion of a ‘sixties’ Fine Art course at Reading University I went on to train as an Art Therapist at St Albans. Through the years I continued painting at home, and on my travels worked under a Tibetan refugee lama to learn some skills of Thanka painting. Like many of us, retirement opened up opportunities to place focus and energies into art making and, following a course with Patrick Jones, I’ve become increasingly interested in abstraction as a process of exploring, digesting, condensing and articulating experiences. My participation in a weekly life drawing group and enthusiasm for exhibitions and galleries helps sharpen the eye. I’m particularly inspired by the uncompromising integrity of Auerbach’s work.
