- Sue Mitchell
From Sue's earliest memories, there has not been a time when she was not drawing, and this developing strength formed the foundation of much of her subsequent work.
Figurative and abstract themes have been expressed in a variety of media, including etching. The abstract has been inspired by natural landscape, the human form and the patterns and ornament from ancient civilisations.
Exhibitions in local galleries in North West England, and Open exhibitions including the Laing Competition, (Manchester and Mall Galleries), Manchester Academy, and the Royal Watercolour Society, have been strong focusing points during her career. Solo exhibitions have included Lancaster City Museum, and the Brewery Art Centre, Kendal. Commissions have encompassed widely diverse subjects ranging from portraits, animals, architecture, ships, to BAE aeroplanes.
Since moving to North Devon, in 2016, she has found inspiration from the seascape around Crow Point, and fascination with the changing and transient nature of all things, and capturing moments in time as expressed in other works.
Sue is a member of North Devon Arts, and the Westward Ho! and Bideford Art Society
Her paintings are in private collections in the UK, Europe, the Far East and the U.S.A. Sue is happy to accept commissions.
