NDA Fablab tour

Fablab machines

NDA organised a tour of the FabLab in Barnstaple Library which houses a range of computer controlled machines such as computer aided embroidery, vinyl cutting, 3D printing and laser cutting.

We had a full house and all agreed that the creative potential of these facilities are immense either on their own or in conjunction with other aspects of our art practices. For instance, laser cut printing plates, small sculpture maquettes and many other applications offer all sorts of possibilities.

The Barnstaple FabLab (there is also one in Exeter) operates as an open access, community resource run on a not-for-profit basis. To get the best value from the facilities, we recommend you become a member which currently costs £70 per year. For this, you will be trained how to use the equipment independently and although there is a small materials cost and, for large projects, there may be additional machine time charges, you will be able to have open access to explore your digital creativity.

NDA members who attended were offered free membership for one year which includes Barnstaple and Exeter.
