Important Alert regarding a scam email being sent to NDA members.
I am posting this after sending an email already that some may have received but in other cases it may have been sent to their spam folder. Apologies to those who have already seen this. I wanted to be sure every one was made aware of the matter hence the second email with the link to this post. Please be assured, the NDA website has not been compromised. These emails are commonly sent to artists email contacts that are listed on their own and other gallery websites.
I trust you are keeping safe and coping okay with these challenging times. It seems there are those less desirable members of society that are still at large attempting to add to our troubles. We have been made aware of members receiving email from a person showing an interest in their art work. The enquiry comes from someone calling themselves Leah who’s english is clearly very poor. Here is the body of the message (the email address I deleted):
From: leah (email address deleted)
My name is Leah Port from United Kingdom. I actually observed my wife has been viewing your website on my laptop and i guess she likes your piece of work. I’m also impressed and amazed to have seen your various works too,You are doing a great job. I would like to purchase one of your items available below and ready for sale as a surprise to my wife on our anniversary. Also, my method of payment is by Bank Cheque as mode of Payment and if you agreed get back to me with the details now.
The email is a scam and has been doing the rounds for some time now. There are various articles reporting on it. The scammer is ultimately attempting to defraud the artist by sending a cheque for way too much money for the artwork on all sorts of odd pretext, hoping the artist would bank it and then wire back the over payment before the first cheque had bounced. The scammer harvests emails from artists and art group websites. Do not reply to these. If you have, please do not continue with any further dialogue.
Here is a link to an online article about this type of scam which I have included as much to reassure as to inform.
Thank you for your attention regarding this matter. Please get in touch if you have any concerns about this.
